Surfing in Noosa :: http://www.noosa.com/surfing.html
... surfing here is like eating a hot dog at coney island; it’s completely integrated into the Noosa experience. It’s so normal people might forget to mention it. Meanwhile, you’re watching surf films on the ubiquitous flat-screens mounted in every food/drink establishment on Hastings while the guy serving your after-dinner mint has one leg in his spring suit for a midnight session. It’s golden
And for a nightcap that doesn’t involve paddling, check out the bar in the Sheraton; it seemed to be the only place in all of Oz not blasting techno from the rooftops. The Noosa Surf Club is the place for live music with a view, but beware of drunken aussie tourists dancing feverishly to Bye Bye Miss American Pie – yikes!
But surfing … surfing is the point, pun intended, and it is ultimately and undoubtedly the Noosa mojo. You can paddle out into
Laguna Bay for a typical beach break (look for the channel, or ask a local – they’re friendly), or head northeast to
The First Point where longboarders hang in groves. Further around the headlands you’ll find a number of other points, including
Tea Tree and
Granite Bay. Once you round the headland, clothing becomes optional at
Alexandria Bay and the surf becomes optimal at
Sunshine Beach, a 15 km stretch to
Point Perry.
(Rumor has it, if you catch one of the outer point breaks, you can ride it all the way across the bay) … beach map http://www.noosa-heads.net/noosaheads/beach.html.
Eumundi Markets :: http://www.eumundimarkets.com.au/
Check the web site for days and times of operation – well worth a day trip – the website doesn’t do it justice, definitely check it out if you find yourself in Noosa. It is a true artisan village.
http://www.halselodge.com.au/ … this hostel is “only 100 metres from Noosa's beach and relaxed Hastings Street - a colourful collection of shops, cafes, nightclubs and bars right on Laguna beach. Walk to Noosa's scenic national park, stroll through the rainforest to secluded beaches - ideal for surfing and swimming. Major departure point for Fraser Island and Rainbow Beach - tour bookings available, as well as skydiving, surfing lessons, bicycle tours, kayaking, diving, fishing, everglades and more.”
There is also an information center on Hastings Street that will book you on the spot for any open room in Noosa. Consider the Noosa Village Motel if you can’t get into the hostels, or don’t want to. The price seemed steep (although it was the cheapest available, but we booked same-day and during the busiest time of year, Christmas – New Year’s). The rooms are very clean, the management is great and it’s right in the middle of Hastings Street.
Peace.
